Speaker: Josiah Lavender, University of New Mexico

Birds act as sensitive indicators of environmental change, allowing us to gauge the effects of climate change on the natural world. Climate change poses numerous threats for bird populations through warming and habitat changes. Research on climate change and birds has surged in the last decade, providing insights into how birds are responding to these threats. In this presentation, Josiah will discuss the threats of climate change to birds, how birds are responding, and how scientists study the effects of environmental change on birds.

Josiah became interesting in birds when he was 6 years-old, growing up in Athens, GA. This early interest led him to pursue an academic career studying ecology and evolutionary biology. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of New Mexico, and guides birding trips and gives public lectures on bird-related topics in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Join us at 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 11 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 107 West Barcelona Road in Santa Fe. The presentation is free, and all are welcome to attend.
